Scottish Country Dancing

A message from the Ball Chairman:

We have the best ballroom and the best bands in the land for our next Ball on Saturday 26th August 2006. The new Perth Concert Hall (behind M&S) has the space and the floor to hold the whole evening in one area and Simon Howie's Scottish Country Dance Band - well known to real Reelers - is the best in the land. Robert McDowell's West End Jazz Band is also well known to us and will be playing during the reception and dinner and in the interval.

The invitation is enclosed and we very much hope you will be able to attend with a large party and enjoy a magical evening of jazz and reels. However, numbers are restricted and no ticket can be guaranteed after the 16th August. The doors will open at 7.30pm for a Seabreeze Cocktail Reception on the dance floor before dinner at 8.30pm for white ticket holders. The excellent in house caterers will give us a two course dinner with wine, at tables of ten. The number of tables round the dance floor will be limited and will be allocated on a "first come first served" basis. Late bookings will be accommodated at tables on the dance floor but these tables will have to be cleared away before the first reel. There are, however, plenty of "sitting out" seats and I am sure the remaining tables will be delighted to accommodate your glasses and drinks!!

"Fine Feathers Make Fine Birds" This is a traditional Highland Ball so 'fine feathers' means “Highland Evening Dress, Mess Dress, Hunt Coats, White or Black Tie for the Men and Full Length Dresses for the Ladies.” Short Dresses are not permitted and as Party Leader you are responsible for seeing that your party conforms to these rules.

Blue ticket holders who are attending the Ball only will be admitted from 9.30pm so that they can enjoy a little jazz.

Over £8,000 has been raised for Local Charities by the Tombola run at the Highland Ball. This year the charity will be Children 1st, Perth Committee. Please support this excellent charity either by buying tickets at the Ball or, if you are unable to attend, a donation would be very much appreciated by the Children 1st Charity. A leaflet on the work of this excellent charity is enclosed.

We will require Pipers to welcome guests in the Foyer and announce the reels at 10pm as well as Marshals to number the sets. We would ask volunteers to put their names on the ticket application. Volunteers will be badged on the night by the Chief Marshal, Ralph Anderson.

Scottish Country Dancing is at its best and the most fun when most people know how to do the reels. This year we are leaving the traditional pre-ball practice session to house parties to organise among themselves.

All Ball Guests are very welcome to attend the Randox International Polo Championship as day members of the Polo Club. Gates open for picnic lunches on both Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August at 12 o'clock. Entry is free for cars and passengers but a donation to the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust would be appreciated on entry to the Scone Palace Polo Grounds.

So with the best jazz and reel bands, a fantastic new location at the Perth Concert Hall, the 2006 Perth Highland Polo Ball will be a night to remember. See you there.

Yours sincerely

Ball Chairman
